What it measures
The Producer Price Index (PPI), also from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, measures the prices domestic producers receive for what they sell. The headline figure is for final demand: goods, services and construction sold to their final users.
It is watched as an early read on inflation, since costs businesses face often reach consumer prices later. The month-on-month change is quoted from the seasonally adjusted series and the year-on-year change from the unadjusted one. The report is released monthly at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

Month-on-month changes are from the seasonally adjusted series and year-on-year changes from the unadjusted one, the pairing the BLS quotes.
